Somot, S., Sevault, F. & Déqué, M., 2006, Climate Dynamics
DOI: 10.1007/s00382-006-0167-z
The first ever regional climate projection for the Mediterranean Sea, this study also provided early evidence of a possible weakening of Mediterranean deep-water formation under climate change.
Somot, S., Sevault, F., Déqué, M. & Crépon, M., 2008, Global and Planetary Change
DOI: 10.1016/j.gloplacha.2007.10.003
This paper introduced the first fully-coupled atmosphere–ocean regional climate model for the Mediterranean. It marked an important step towards the Regional Climate System Models (RCSMs), and later Regional Earth System Models (RESMs), that became a central part of my research and of the Med-CORDEX initiative.
Ruti, P. M., Somot, S., Giorgi, F., et al. 2016, Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society
DOI: 10.1175/BAMS-D-14-00176.1
This paper introduced the Med-CORDEX initiative and its coordinated approach to regional climate system modelling in the Mediterranean, a lively scientific community in which I have been deeply involved since its creation.
Somot, S., Houpert, L., Sevault, F., et al. 2018, Climate Dynamics
DOI: 10.1007/s00382-016-3295-0
The outcome of more than ten years of work combining in-situ observations, satellite products and coupled regional climate model simulation to better understand the strong interannual variability of deep-water formation in the north-western Mediterranean Sea.
Boé, J., Somot, S., Corre, L. & Nabat, P., 2020, Climate Dynamics
DOI: 10.1007/s00382-020-05153-1
This study identified a major inconsistency between global and regional climate model projections of summer climate change over Europe, raising important questions about the use of regional climate projections.
Nabat, P., Somot, S., Mallet, M., Sanchez-Lorenzo, A. & Wild, M., 2014, Geophysical Research Letters
This study demonstrated the major role played by anthropogenic aerosols in the observed past evolution of the European and Mediterranean climate over recent decades.
Darmaraki, S., Somot, S., Sevault, F., et al. 2019, Climate Dynamics
DOI: 10.1007/s00382-019-04661-z
The first multi-model climate projection study of Mediterranean marine heatwaves based on the Med-CORDEX regional climate model ensemble, illustrating the value of coordinated coupled regional modelling for studying future ocean extremes.
